What is Chess for Schools?
Chess for Schools is a major new nationwide initiative that aims to provide ten free chess sets to every one of England's 25,000 schools, with the intention of creating school chess clubs and inter-school chess tournaments.
The overall aim of the project is to promote strategic and logical thinking in our youth.
Holloid Plastics, manufacturer and distributer of the chess sets, is funding this charity initiative in partnership with the English Chess Federation.
Why Chess?
Before the dawn of the Xbox or Playstation, there was Chess:
- Chess is the age-old brain game invented over 1,400 years ago.
- Chess cuts through barriers of age, gender, race and class.
- Chess develops critical thinking skills; it requires concentration, focus, strategy and logic.
Chess is the universal sport, played by many and enjoyed by all.
LEARNING THE GAME OF CHESS
Originating from the 6th century, Chess has long been enjoyed by kings who believed the chess board represents the world and the pieces are people living within it. You are given control over your people and must lead them into battle, and on to victory. Here you can find out how.
